Abel's first bites!

Abel took his first shot at eating today (besides the snap pea he unexpectedly bit into and the green onion we tried to give him to soothe his new teeth). We're trying out "Baby Lead Weaning" (BLW), which basically means that we give him soft foods that he can grab and feed to himself without us putting things in his mouth. Yes, we still help guide him (we don't put him in his crib alone with a hotdog), and no, he's not going to choke (although we did brush up on some infant CPR videos just in case).

We've heard great things about BLW, so we were excited to try it out, and thought we'd invite Uncle Chris and Aunt Lew over for the fun. We've also been told that he's not really going to actually eat much for the first few months, which we discovered to be true tonight; it was pretty much just an awesome mush fest. Sarah baked some yam, asparagus, and carrots, and added a banana and some tortellini. I think Abel liked the texture of the foods on his hands more than anything, but certainly wasn't put off by any of the tastes. It didn't really seem like he swallowed much, but be sure that I'll be scouring his poop tomorrow. Can't wait to watch as his eating skills progress! - Mike

  1. I can't believe the little man is already old enough for solids!!! We'll be heading that direction in about a month or so. I can't wait to read all about Abel's adventures and his poop on this new journey!
